Introducing Dr. Dietmar Pressner

We proudly announce that  Dr. Dietmar Pressner has joined our IP2 team as a Senior Patent Advisor, responsible for chemical cases and IP strategy.

Originally qualified as a PhD. in Chemistry completed at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Dietmar Pressner is a patent attorney with over 25 years of experience and formal qualifications before the European Patent Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

His work experience was with Henkel KGaA and Bayer AG in Germany and the United States and then 17 years with DSM NV in Switzerland and the Netherlands where he first led the Nutrition and subsequently the Materials IP groups before taking global responsibility for all IP matters for 10 years.

During this time, he was entrusted with the role of General Manager of DSM Germany GmbH, which broadened his knowledge and his understanding of leadership outside the fields of his personal expertise in innovation.

He also served as the Board Member of the Patent Documentation Group for 8 years, 2 of which as its President, where he could improve the skill of leading without formal authority in a European Organization. The use of patent information to make innovation faster and companies and ultimately societies more successful is very close to his heart.

Dietmar is adamant that patents should be market relevant and has found a number of ways to make sure that they become so. His practical advice was useful in over 40 M&A projects and more than 25 IP litigations worldwide. Most of those were effectively settled by win-win licenses.

His time at IP2 is his first engagement in a patent law firm and the proof of his conviction that lifelong learning is a wonderful and necessary concept for all.

Beside this Dietmar also works on interesting projects in the field of sustainability and as a leadership coach specifically for knowledge workers and diverse teams.

In his free time, he likes to spend time with his family and travel a bit.

Given the long time, that he already likes to play chess, his skills in this royal game are embarrassingly low.
