Rocco S. Barrese is a co-founder of Dilworth & Barrese, LLP and has experience in both in-house counsel and outside counsel. Mr. Barrese has extensive experience in all phases of patent and trademark prosecution, and related matters including IP transactions and due diligence, litigation, post grant proceedings and inter partes matters including nullity actions, oppositions, invalidations and cancellations, licensing of intellectual property and opinions including freedom to operate, infringement and validity opinions. He is knowledgable in international patent laws and experienced in worldwide patent prosecution including PCT and EPO practice. Technologically, Mr. Barrese practices in the areas of organosilicon chemistry, organophosphorus chemistry, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, flavors, fragrances, polymers, catalysts, mechanical devices and systems. Mr. Barrese holds a B.S. in chemistry from Niagara University and a J.D. from the University of Maryland.

Peter G. Dilworth

Peter G. Dilworth is co-founder of Dilworth & Barrese, LLP. Mr. Dilworth has extensive experience in all phases of chemical patent prosecution, including interference practice and patent litigation at both the trial and appellate levels, IP transactions and due diligence, post grant proceedings and inter partes matters including nullity actions, oppositions, invalidations and cancellations, licensing of intellectual property and opinions including freedom to operate, infringement and validity opinions. He is knowledgeable in international patent laws and experienced in worldwide patent prosecution including PCT and EPO practice. Mr. Dilworth focuses his practice on pharmaceuticals and other small molecules, polymers and their processing, consumer products, petroleum refinery unit operations, catalysis, agrochemicals, surfactants, and mechanical devices and systems. Mr. Dilworth has written on intellectual property topics including “Some Suggestions for Maximizing the Benefits of the Provisional Application”, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society pp. 233-240; “About “About” and Other Imprecise Claim Terms”, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society pp. 423-438 and he has lectured worldwide in the area of U.S. post-grant proceedings. Mr. Dilworth holds a B.S. in Chemistry from St. John’s University , an LL.M. from New York University and a J.D. from St. Johns University.

Dr. Joyce Liu is a chemical engineer and had worked for Sinopec Beijing Petrochemical Co., Beijing, China 1997-2001.  Experienced in all phases of patent prosecution. Fields of technology include chemistry, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, materials sciences, semiconductors and solar cells. Dr. Liu holds a B.E. in Chemistry, from Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from  Northwestern University and a  J.D. from Boston University School of Law. Chinese (Mandarin) being Dr. Liu’s native language allows her to be a significant liaison with the firm’s chinese clients.

Dr. Sun J. Kim is an experienced, highly qualified patent practitioner, who provides insightful, practical, and business-oriented service to his clients. Sun has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in a variety of technical areas including semiconductors, social networks, machine learning, cloud computing, medical devices, optics, RFID, wireless networks, and holograms. Prior to working as a patent agent, Sun worked for the Korean Intellectual and Property Office (KIPO) as a patent examiner for over 3 years. In addition to his legal acumen, Sun possess a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and more than 4 years of research experience at Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) in South Korea and Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Denmark.
